Modern office atrium in low light

Fractional & interim

Senior capability now, without a permanent hire.

Experienced leaders step in part time or on a fixed term to steer strategy, hold governance through change and de-risk delivery, with a defined mandate and a designed exit.

What it is

A narrow mandate, held by someone who has done it before.

Fractional leadership is not a discounted permanent hire. It works when the brief is specific, the milestones are explicit and everyone agrees what finished looks like.

We place leaders who have already carried the accountability you are trying to cover: a CTO who has modernised a platform under commercial pressure, a CRO who has rebuilt forecasting discipline, a transformation director who has landed an integration.

Typical mandates

  • Cover between a departure and a permanent appointment, without losing momentum
  • Two to four days a month of board level technology, data or commercial leadership
  • Integration and transformation ownership through a defined programme
  • Governance and reporting discipline ahead of a funding round or exit
  • Coaching and structure for a first time executive who is growing into the role

How we scope it

Four questions before anyone starts.

Most fractional arrangements drift because nobody defined them. We settle these first.

  1. 01

What has to be true at the end

The outcome, written down, with the measures that prove it.

  2. 02

    What authority the leader holds

Decision rights, budget, team and reporting line, agreed with the board.

  3. 03

How much time it really takes

Honest capacity, not an optimistic two days that turns into four.

  4. 04

    How it ends

Handover to a permanent hire, an internal successor, or a clean close.

Fractional or interim

Two different answers.

Fractional

Ongoing part time leadership

A permanent shape of role that does not need a full time person. Common for CTO, CDO, CRO and product leadership in businesses under roughly £30m revenue.

  • Two to four days a month, ongoing
  • Board attendance and strategic ownership
  • Builds and mentors the team beneath
Interim

Full time, fixed term

A defined period of full time accountability, usually three to twelve months, covering a gap or leading a programme with an end date.

  • Four to five days a week for a set term
  • Delivery of a named programme or transition
  • Handover documentation as standard

Need cover in weeks, not months?

Tell us the gap and the timeline. We will come back with the shape of mandate we would recommend and who we would put forward.
